Men's Lacrosse Hosts Villanova in Non-Con Action Monday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (1-6, 0-1 Ivy League) host the Villanova Wildcats (5-3, 0-0 Big East) in a Monday afternoon meeting at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Monday's game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Monday looking for its second consecutive win after taking an 11-10 thriller over UMass on Friday at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
- The offense average nine goals per game and is led by junior Aidan McLane's 16 goals and 19 points. Spencer Hughes and Ben Locke are tied for second on the team with eight goals apiece.
- Brown's man-up offense has seven goals in 24 attempts with McLane leading the Bears with four EMO goals.
- Brown's clear percentage ranks 23rd nationally at .873. Additionally, opponents clear the ball at just a .816 clip against Brown.
- Defensively, Brown allows 12.43 goals per game to rank 52nd in the nation. Connor Theriault has started all seven games in goal and holds a .484 save percentage and 12.67 goals against average.
- Brown's man-down defense is tied for 15th nationally with Villanova at .750 (24-for-32).
- Villanova enters Monday with a 5-3 overall record with wins over Colgate, Lehigh, Drexel, Monmouth, and Navy. The Wildcats dropped games to Penn State, Yale, and Penn.
- Offensively, Villanova averages 12.12 goals per game to rank 34th nationally. Matt Licata leads the team with 22 goals and 35 points. His 2.75 goals per game are tied for 25th nationally and his 4.38 points per game rank 27th.
- Villanova's man-up offense has just four goals in 29 attempts (.138) to rank 71st in the NCAA.
- In the clear game, Villanova ranks 60th nationally at .828.
- Defensively, the Wildcats allow 11.12 goals per game to rank 32nd nationally.
- Anthony Wilson has started all eight games in goal and holds a .476 save percentage and 11.04 goals against average.
- Villanova's man-down defense is tied for 15th nationally with Brown at .750 (12-for-16).
- Monday marks the seventh meeting between Brown and Villanova in a series dating back to 2016.
- Brown owns the series edge, 4-2, and looks for its third straight win over the Wildcats.
- The Bears took an 11-10 home win over regional foe UMass in a tightly contested battle at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
- Spencer Hughes tallied four goals and Matteo Corsi recorded the game-winner late in the fourth quarter for the victory. Connor Theriault was stellar in net with 16 saves.
- Brown caused a season-high 12 turnovers and UMass finished the game with 16 giveaways.
- Junior Spencer Hughes doubled his career point total with a career-high four goal outburst against the Minutemen.
- Hughes recorded career-highs in goals, points, shots (7), SOG (4), ground balls (2), and caused turnovers (1).
- His eight goals this season are tied for second-most on the team with classmate Ben Locke.
- Ben Scandone earned the start against UMass and recorded his first points in a Brown uniform with two assists.
- Scandone also caused two turnovers and scooped a ground ball in the win.
- Captain Mark Witt played with the faceoff unit against UMass and wreaked havoc with two caused turnover and three ground balls.
- Brown's man-down defense leads the Ivy League and is tied for 15th nationally at .750 (24-for-32).
