PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A 25-point performance from Grace Arnolie and a clutch 12-point, nine rebound effort from Mya Murray helped lift the Brown women's basketball team to a big 75-66 victory over Cornell at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. Despite the victory, Brown was eliminated from Ivy League postseason contention by virtue of Penn's 69-67 upset of Harvard.
Arnolie's 25 points tied her season and career-high, a mark she also set against Cornell back in January. She shot 8-for-14 from the floor and 4-of-7 from three-point range. Murray's 12 points were a season-high. Olivia Young scored 12 points while going 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Isabella Mauricio also reached double figures with 11 points.
Brown outrebounded Cornell 38-37, shot 45.3 percent from the floor (24-for-53), and 45.5 percent (10-for-22) from three-point range.
Cornell used a 9-0 run to take an 11-5 lead just over six minutes into the game before Arnolie drained her second three of the opening quarter to trim it to three. Young hit the Bears third triple in six tries late in the quarter to help make it 17-13 Cornell after one.
Jones capped a 7-0 Brown run with a three from the right wing to give the Bears the lead back at 20-19, and Murray followed moments later with another triple from the same spot, which also gave Brown the lead.
Arnolie drained a wide open three-pointer, then came away with a steal and score, drawing the foul and hitting the ensuing free throw to cap a 10-2 run that gave Brown its largest lead 36-29 in the final minute, and take a 36-31 lead into halftime.
Young got the lead to double digits, 45-35, just over two minutes into the second with a big three-pointer, forcing a Cornell timeout. Arnolie connected on her sixth field goal in seven shots to grow the lead to 50-35 at 6:25.
Brown built a game-high 18-point lead exactly two minutes into the fourth. An 8-1 run by Cornell followed which trimmed their deficit to 65-54 by the under-five media timeout.
Cornell pulled within six with 1:06 to go after a steal and layup, but Young delivered the dagger with a massive three to beat the shot clock with 33.3 seconds remaining to get the lead back to 71-62. The Bears then put the game away with four free throws down the stretch.
Brown will conclude the regular season next Saturday at home on Senior Day against Yale. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
