WASHINGTON, D.C. – The eleventh-ranked Georgetown Hoyas (3-2, 0-0 Big East) held off the Brown Bears (0-4, 0-0 Ivy League) in non-conference action to take an 11-5 home win at a rainy Cooper Field on Saturday.
"It's a disappointing result for sure," said head coach Mike Daly. "I thought our guys competed hard against a very good team. We had a couple opportunities in the second half to cut into the lead but credit to Georgetown, they made the plays they needed to make."
Dash Sachs took the opening faceoff win over James Ball and ripped a shot past Anderson Moore (11 saves) for his first career goal just five seconds into the game.
The Hoyas responded with goals from Aidan Carroll, Graham Bundy Jr., and Chase Llewellyn to take a 3-1 lead with 9:28 remaining in the first quarter.
Ryan Behrens cut into the Hoya lead with the final goal of the quarter with 1:59 remaining. Behrens collected an outlet pass from Connor Theriault (9 saves) and raced past the Georgetown defense for the transition goal.
Georgetown held Bruno scoreless in the second quarter and pushed the lead to 6-2 with goals from Anthony Vardaro, TJ Haley, and Joe Cesare.
Ben Locke scored twice for Brown in the third quarter to match his season-high. Cesare and Jordan Wray found the back of the net for the Hoyas to take an 8-4 lead into the fourth.
The Hoyas extended the lead with three straight goals to open the fourth quarter and take an 11-4 lead. Luke Dellicicchi tallied a late goal for Brown with an assist to Locke in the fourth to make the final 11-5.
GAME NOTES
Brown returns to action next Saturday at third-ranked Maryland (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten). Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at noon in College Park.
