No. 23 Women's Lacrosse Falls in Final Seconds to No. 8 Notre Dame

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - No. 23 Brown women's lacrosse went back-and-forth all night with No. 8 Notre Dame and fell in the final seconds, 16-15, at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Wednesday night.
The Bears fall to 5-2 on the year, while the Fighting Irish improve to 6-2.
Senior Mia Mascone led all players with six goals and added an assist, while seniors Julia Ford and Leah Caputo, and junior Annie Burton each finished with two goals.
Graduate student Jackie Wolak led Notre Dame with five goals, while classmate Kasey Choma had four and senior Mary Kelly Doherty tallied three.
Burton netted the first goal of the game at 13:22. The Fighting Irish then scored five out of the next six goals to take a 5-2 lead with 4:21 to go in the first. Senior Maddie Joyce and junior Greta Criqui fired home goals to finish the quarter with a 5-4 Notre Dame advantage.
The Fighting Irish extended their lead to 9-5 to start the second, but senior Nathalie Ahn and Mascone cut the deficit to 9-7 at the half.
Mascone scored the first three Brown goals of the third to even the score at 10 and Caputo kept it rolling as the teams traded goals to make it 11-11 with 7:03 to go in the third. Notre Dame then closed the quarter on a 3-0 run to make it 14-11 heading to the fourth.
Mascone and Ford opened the fourth with three-straight Brown goals to tie things at 14 with 5:08 on the clock. The Fighting Irish retook the lead at 4:28 until Mascone knotted the game at 15 with 1:53 to go. Notre Dame scored the game winner with 36 seconds remaining to seal it.
Brown hosts UMass Lowell on Saturday at 1 p.m. to conclude its four-game homestand.
