Gymnastics Falls to Bridgeport on Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown gymnastics team came up on the short end of their Sunday dual meet against the University of Bridgeport. The Bears posted an all-around score of 193.425, while the Purple Knights totaled 194.250.
Junior Julia Bedell earned wins on vault and floor, while tying for fourth all-time in program history on vault. Senior Lauren McKeown took home first place on bars, while senior Angela Xing set a huge career-high on floor to finish runner-up and help Brown sweep the podium in the event.
Following the meet, Brown recognized its seven-member senior class of 2024 in Asta-Sollilja Farrell, Lauren Kramer, Ali Lowe, Lauren McKeown, Lara Swords, McKenna Weiner and Angela Xing.
Brown started the meet on vault and scored 48.675, tied for their fourth-best score of the season. Bedell anchored the event by tying her own career-high at 9.850, which ties her own mark for fourth-best in program history. Xing was next for Brown in a tie for third place with her score of 9.800. Kramer and Emily Ford both tied their career-highs with Kramer finishing sixth at 9.775, while Ford took seventh at 9.700.
Brown scored 47.800 on bars on the second rotation as the Purple Knights pulled into the lead by .400. Sophia Dewar led off the event by setting a new career-high by sticking her landing and scoring 9.700 to finish in third place. Brown took the top two spots as well as McKeown and Farrell tied for first place overall by both scoring 9.775.
On beam, the Bears were anchored by Ford, who led the team in third place at 9.750. Kramer and Lindsey Yang followed in a tie for sixth place at 9.725 and Liza Marcus led off with a 9.675 to finish eighth. As a team, the Bears scored 47.900 on beam as Bridgeport led 145.375-144.375 entering the final rotation.
The Bears ended the meet with their strongest event, scoring 49.050 on floor and sweeping the podium with Bedell leading the way with the individual title at 9.900. Xing and Maya Davis finished in a tie for second at 9.875, while Kramer and Yang tied for sixth at 9.700.
Brown will travel to the University of New Hampshire next Sunday for a quad meet against the Wildcats, Bridgeport and Temple in their final tune-up before the GEC Championships.
