PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown (6-15, 2-4 Ivy) held #RV Princeton (16-3, 4-2 Ivy) to 27 percent shooting from long distance, but the Tigers went 20-of-21 from the line to defeat the Bears 70-60 on Saturday evening in the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Over 1,000 fans cheered on Brown inside the Pizz for the third consecutive home game.
Nana Owusu-Anane posted another 20-point contest, going 7-of-10 from the field with six rebounds, Kino Lilly Jr. added 15 points and Kimo Ferrari came off the bench with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.
FIRST HALF
Brown took care of the basketball, turning the ball over just once in the opening stanza, but the Tigers went into the half holding a slim two-point edge, 30-28. Three-pointers were the story early for the Bears, with five triples, and the seven offensive rebounds led to seven points.
Owusu-Anane led Brown with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and five rebounds, while Ferrari came off the bench with six points, four boards and two assists.
SECOND HALF
Princeton and Brown traded baskets early before Owusu-Anane's steal led to an Aaron Cooley fast break layup, cutting the Tigers' lead to three and forcing a visiting timeout with 15:02 left to play.
Super Bowl Champion Michael Hoecht joined the over 1,000 to pack the Pizz for the third consecutive home game and was honored and signed autographs in the tunnel.
Princeton extended its lead to the largest (seven) before a Lilly Jr. driving layup – another second chance basket - with 9:18 remaining made it 55-50.
Ferrari forced a Princeton turnover to regain possession for Brown, and moments later, a deep three by Lilly Jr. made it a two-point ballgame. On the Princeton drive, Owusu-Anane swatted away a floater.
