Bernard Wins High Jump Title as Brown Wraps up Competition at Heps

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's track and field team turned in its highest finish at the Ivy League Indoor Heps since 2011 on Sunday, taking home fourth place. Junior Rudecia Bernard captured her first career Heps title by winning the high jump, one of two individual titles on the weekend for the women to go along with eight finishes in the top three.
The men finished fifth overall and had five athletes finish in the top three throughout the weekend.

Bernard's high jump cleared 1.76 meters to take home the gold, which she cleared on her first attempt. Lauren Yeboah-Kodie cleared 1.72 meters to take the silver and help the Bears sweep the top two spots on the podium.
In the shot put, Kendra Ezeama took home third place at 14.74m.
Brown landed three athletes in the top five of the triple jump with Yeboah-Kodie earning bronze at 12.91m, followed by Jada Joseph (12.68m) in fourth and Chiamaka Odenigbo (12.34m) tying her PR in fifth.
In the sprints, Yeboah-Kodie and Odenigbo shared the podium by both medaling in the 60m hurdles finals, with Yeboah-Kodie taking second in 8.58 seconds and Odenigbo finishing third in 8.62.
Jenna Lowrey secured fourth place in the 500 meters in 1:15.05.
In the 5,000 meters, senior Katie Orchard set a new personal record of 17:12.98 to finish 11th overall.
In the relays, Brown's DMR team of Scarlett Stimson, Tanisha Patil, Emily Mrakovcic and Nimrit Ahuja earned a point for their sixth place run of 11:41.66.

Senior Marcus Gillespie took home second place in the 60 meter hurdles, inching closer to the school record with his time of 7.93, just 0.02 seconds shy of the school benchmark and trimming 0.02 seconds off his previous personal record.
Sophomore Elias Archie took over sole possession of the second-fastest 60 meter dash time in program history at 6.81 seconds to finish fifth overall in the finals. His new PR is just 0.02 seconds shy of John Spooney's school record from 2013.
Jason Estrada took home the bronze in the finals of the 400 meters, setting a new PR at 48.03, good for No. 4 in program history.
In the jumps, John McNeil set a new personal best by one centimeter to finish in second place overall, clearing 2.15 meters to tie for the third-highest leap in program history. Zach Love finished fifth overall at 14.57 in the triple jump.
In the relays, the 4x400 squad of Jack Kelley, Estrada, Daniel Sarisky and Love finished fourth overall in 3:13.40. The 4x800 team also picked up a point courtesy of Jesse Edelstein, John Ryan, Matt Wing and Matthew Doherty in 7:45.83.
