CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown women's fencing returned to action at the 2024 NEIFC Championships on the campus of MIT on Saturday.
"An excellent day of fencing today from Brown's women's fencing team, with a plethora of awards," said head coach Alex Ripa. "A great way to cap the season, Brown took home a gold (foil), a silver (epee), and a bronze (saber). Next, we are on to Regionals!"
The Bruno foil team of Anika Breker, Jessie Chen, Samantha Chon, Grace Li, and Apoorva Talwalkar took first place in the team standings, holding off Wellesley and Tufts. Breker won seven matches while the quartet of Chen, Chon, Li, and Talwalkar each picked up three wins.
The epee squad of Arianna Baffa, Amy Mao, and Dasha Smuk took silver as a team behind only host MIT. Baffa finished 6-1, Smuk finished 5-2, and Mao finished 6-0.
The Bears took bronze in the sabre behind host MIT and Tufts. Alexandra Tzou and Alyssa Sun both finished the tournament with a 6-1 record while Soph Bililies went a perfect 7-0.
Next up for the Bears is the NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday, March 10 in Brookville, New York.
