Women's Tennis Suffers Road Loss at Illinois
2/17/2024 7:50:00 PM | Women's Tennis
The Bears won the doubles point to take an early match lead. The 34th ranked duo of sophomore Phoebe Peus and junior Lindsey Hofflander won their match at first doubles (6-2), while sophomore Vivian Miller and senior Nora Lee secured third doubles (6-4).
"We came out with lots of energy and fight in doubles," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "Phoebe and Lindsey overwhelmed their opponents with pace and aggressive net play at line one. Vivian and Nora were in control of their match the entire set with Vivian closing out the match and the doubles point with an ace."
Peus was leading the second set at first singles and senior Ali Benedetto was tied in the second set at second singles before both of their matched went unfinished.
"In singles, we weren't able to keep the same focus and gamestyle clarity on most courts, and lost the first sets pretty quickly, giving our opponents even more confidence," said Schmidhauser. "Second sets were closer on most courts, but Illinois was just too tough for us today. Phoebe and Ali were still battling in their matches when the match was clinched. I hope our team can bounce back tomorrow against Northwestern."
