Gymnastics Breaks School Record on Floor at LIU Quad Meet

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Brown gymnastics team broke the program record on floor at a quad meet at LIU on Saturday evening. The team's score of 49.250 surpassed the previous benchmark of 49.200, which was set at the 2022 GEC Championships, and once again last weekend. All six athletes on the event scored at least a 9.775.
For the second straight meet, junior Julia Bedell tied the No. 2 all-time mark in program history on floor, tying for first in the event with a score of 9.925. First-year Lindsey Yang finished second overall while setting a new career-high on beam and made her collegiate lineup debut on floor, scoring a 9.850 in both events.
Penn took home first place with 194.700 points, followed by host LIU at 194.525, and Brown in third with 192.975. Cornell finished in fourth place with 192.400.
Angela Xing and Sophia Dewar tied for third overall on vault to leads the Bears, with Dewar's score tying her career-high. Lauren Kramer tied for sixth overall at 9.750, and Bedell rounded out the top 10 at 9.725. As a team, Brown finished with a score of 48.650.
On bars, junior Maya Davis led Brown with a career-high of 9.775 to finish fifth overall. McKeown tied for eighth overall at 9.725 as the Bears totaled 47.025.
On beam, Yang set a huge career-high with a strong 9.850 score to finish runner-up. Liza Marcus tied for seventh at 9.725 as Brown finished with 48.050.
On floor, Bedell continued her sensational run with another 9.925 to tie for first place in the event and tie her own mark for No. 2 all-time in program history for the second straight meet. Yang and Davis followed in a tie for sixth place at 9.850, and Marcus set a new career-high of 9.825. Kramer followed at 9.800 and Xing scored 9.775 to help complete the new program record.
Next up, Brown will compete for the second time this weekend at the All-American Podium Challenge at Mohegan Sun on Monday afternoon. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
