"Even though the final result didn't go in our favor, I was proud of our team's effort and their "never say never" mindset," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "Ali and Addie played flawless doubles at line two. After fighting off three match points at line one doubles, Phoebe and Lindsey closed out the doubles point with courage."
Brown took the first match point by winning singles. No. 34 Sophomore Phoebe Peus and junior Lindsey Hofflander took down No. 51 Maia Sung and Isabella Chhiv (7-5)Â in a battle of ranked pairs, while senior Ali Benedetto and junior Addison Ahlstrom took second doubles (6-1).
Princeton then won fourth, third and second singles to take a 3-1 match lead before Peus secured first singles (7-5, 6-4) to make it a 3-2 match. The Tigers then took fifth singles to clinch the match.
"In singles, Phoebe competed very well against an excellent opponent, using her serve speed and groundstroke accuracy to keep her opponent on defense most of the match," said Schmidhauser. "Phoebe was clutch in big moments and closed out the match with confidence. Both Anne and Addie kept fighting until the end of their singles matches, coming back from one set deficits and displaying a lot of fight and courage. Our team has a lot to build on from this weekend and we will implement our takeaways in practice and future competition."
