Women's Fencing Wraps Up First Day of 2024 Ivy League Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brown Bears wrapped up competition on the first day of the 2024 Ivy League Fencing Championships, dropping matches to Columbia, Yale, Harvard, and Penn in the first four rounds of the Championship Saturday in New York City.
Anika Breker (foil) and Alexandra Tzou (sabre) each collected four points for the Bears in the first day of competition.
Top-seeded Columbia took a 19-8 win over Brown in the opening round with 7-2 wins in the sabre and epee and a 5-4 win in the foil. Jessie Chen picked up two wins in the foil and Rebecca Whang collected two wins in the sabre.
Yale handed Brown a 19-8 loss in the second round with an 8-1 mark in the epee. Breker finished the match with a 2-1 mark in the foil and Tzou finished 2-1 in the sabre.
Brown dropped its third-round match against Harvard, 17-10, and Penn captured the fourth-round victory with a 23-4 final.
Round 1: Columbia 19, Brown 8 (S: 7-2; F: 5-4; E: 7-2)
Round 2: Yale 19, Brown 8 (S: 5-4; F: 6-3; E: 8-1)
Round 3: Harvard 17, Brown 10 (S: 5-4; F: 4-5; E: 8-1)
Round 4: Penn 23, Brown 4 (S: 7-2; F: 9-0; E: 7-2)
