LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Brown men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end as they fell 87-53 at #8 Kansas on Sunday afternoon.
"We struggled to score the basketball, we didn't shoot the ball as well as we have been," Head Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04 said. "Kansas made us uncomfortable with their pressure and their switching. We had some moments especially in the first half where I thought we ran some good offense and got great shots that didn't go in. if those shots go in it might've been closer at halftime."
After trailing 7-2 early in the contest, Brown fought back with five consecutive points to tie the game at seven, highlighted by a three-pointer by Lyndel Erold, Erold's triple tied the game.
After trailing by as much as nine after tying the game at seven, the Bears again battled back to tie the game at 24 on a Jeremiah Jenkins three-pointer with 8:29 remaining in the first half.
Kansas proceeded to close the first half on an 18-7 run, taking a 42-31 lead into halftime.
Kino Lilly Jr. led all Bears in the first half with 10 points, N'famara Dabo had three first half blocks on the defensive end of the floor.
The Bears' first basket of the second half was a three-pointer from Kino Lilly Jr., the three-pointer cut the Jayhawks' lead to 42-34, the closest the Bears would get in the second half.
The triple also put Lilly Jr. third all-time in program history with 1,621 points, Lilly Jr. would go on to add five more points in the contest to finish the game with 1,625 for his career.
Kansas outscored Brown 45-22 in the second half to earn the victory. Lilly Jr. was the lone Bear to score in double figures as he finished with 18. As a team, Brown shot 21.1 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Dabo added one more block in the second half to finish with four, Dabo has seven blocks in the last two games.
"We weren't good enough playing with poise and discipline but still being aggressive offensively with their switching and their defense, they deserve a lot of credit but we weren't as good as we normally are."
Brown will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 31 when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on #4 Kentucky, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Rupp Arena.
