
Men’s Basketball Opens 2024-25 Season at Siena on Monday

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Brown men's basketball team will open its 2024-25 season at SIena on Monday, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at MVP Arena.
Scott Cordischi and Russ Tyler '71 will bring you the action live on the Brown Varsity Network, fans can access the Brown Varsity Network via the Brown Bears app, Varsity Network app, or BrownBears.com. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Scouting Brown
Brown will look to win its first game of the season for the first time since the 2021-22 season, the Bears opened up that campaign with a 89-59 win over Salve Regina.
The Bears won six road games in 2023-24 while winning their last four contests. Brown returns 12 players from last season's roster.
Brown is fresh off an Ivy Madness Championship Game appearance in its first-ever appearance in the Ivy Madness. Brown won six consecutive games to end the 2023-24 regular season.
Scouting Siena
Siena men's basketball begins a new era under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. The 2003 National Champion at Syracuse spent the last 15 seasons on staff with the Orange.
Major Freeman was named Second Team All-MAAC ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, the Saints were selected ninth in the MAAC preseason poll.
History
The Bears are 1-1 all-time against the Saints, Brown picked up a 71-67 victory over Siena last season at the Pizzitola Sports Center. With the Bears trailing 38-23 at halftime, Kino Lilly Jr. scored 24 second half points to lead the Bears' comeback victory.
New Heights in 2023-24
Eight Ivy League regular season wins in 2023-24 was tied for the most under Head Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04. Brown's six-game winning streak to end the 2023-24 regular season was the longest streak since the Bears won six consecutive games during the 2018-19 season.
Brown has had a winning streak of five or more games four times under Martin '04.
Brown's seven-game winning streak ahead of the 2023-24 Ivy League Championship Game was the longest streak under Martin '04.
New Faces on College Hill
The Bears welcomed four newcomers ahead of the 2024-25 season in Jerrell Barron Jr., Wyatt DeGraaf, Jeremiah Jenkins, and David Rochester. Read about the newcomers here.
Returning Core
Brown returns 12 players from the 2023-24 roster, including three players that made 30 or more appearances. Aaron Cooley, Kino Lilly Jr., and Nana Owusu-Anane each made 30 or more appearances last season.
Lyndel Erold and Alexander Lesburt Jr. return after making 21 appearances each last season, Lesburt Jr. made nine starts while Erold earned eight starting nods.
Landon Lewis earned 25 appearances last season, the junior brought in five rebounds on three separate occasions last season.
All 12 returning players for Brown saw action last season.
Lilly Jr. Chasing History
Kino Lilly Jr. sits third all-time in program history with 240 three-pointers made, the senior is 17 three-pointers behind program leader JR Hobbie, who has 257 career three-pointers made.
Lilly Jr. also sits fifth all-time in career points with 1,406, he is 262 points away from being the second-leading scorer in program history.
Lilly Jr. will look to become the fourth Bear to earn First Team All-Ivy honors in three consecutive seasons, the last player to do so was Jason Forte (2003-05).
Prior to the 2024-25, Lilly Jr. was named to the Bracketeer.Org All-American Watch List.
Ivy League Preseason Poll
Brown checked in third in the Ivy League preseason poll, the Bears received 92 total votes and were the lone team besides the Ivy League favorite Princeton to receive a first-place vote.
This is the second consecutive season the Bears have been picked in the top-four in the Ivy League preseason poll. Third is the highest preseason projection for the Bears under Head Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04.
Notable Non-Conference Games
Brown will host the College Hill Classic (Nov. 15-17) at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears will play games against New Hampshire (Nov. 15), Holy Cross (Nov. 16), and Sacred Heart (Nov. 17).
The Bears will also take on in-state rivals in back-to-back contests in early December at Bryant (Dec. 6) and against Rhode Island at the Pizzitola Sports Center (Dec. 10).
Brown will also take trips to Allen Fieldhouse to take on Kansas (Dec. 23) and Rupp Arena to battle Kentucky (Dec. 31).
