PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Women's Ice Hockey head coach Melanie Ruzzi has announced the hiring of Erika Silva Adams as an assistant coach. Adams will work primarily with the goaltenders for the Bears.
Adams comes to Brown having spent the last three season as an assistant coach and goaltending specialist with Salve Regina University. Prior to Salve Regina, Adams was the head coach at St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island.
"Erika's resume speaks for itself. She provides our team with the perspective of someone who has competed at the highest level of our sport and shares her passion with a tremendous amount of energy," said Ruzzi. "Our goaltenders will particularly benefit from having Erika as a resource from both the tactical and mental requirements of the position."
Adams boasts a decorated career as a goalie at Northeastern University. She was a First Team All-American in 2001 and finished her career with 11 different records. Adams was also named ECAC Goalie of the Year, First Team All-ECAC and ECAC Goalie of the Week three times during the 2001 season. She was one of 10 finalists for the patty Kazmaier Award and won the Joe Bertagna Award for Outstanding Goalie in the Beanpot Tournament in 2000 and 2001.
Adams was also a member of the U.S. National Team in 2004 and served as a goalie coach for the United States Select Development Hockey Camp from 2006-08.
Adams began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Boston University from 2005-08. She graduated from Northeaster in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications.
