Men’s Cross Country Takes Fourth Place at Friar Invitational

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Brown men's cross country team took home fourth place on Friday afternoon at the Friar XC Invitational, hosted by Providence College. Competing on the 6K course at Highland Park for the second straight week, the Bears totaled 74 points on a warm and humid afternoon in a closely contested race, with spots two-through-four being decided by just seven points.
Stony Brook took first place overall with 39 points, followed by the host Friars with 67. UConn totaled 72 points, with Brown following close behind with 74. Rhode Island (114) and New Hampshire (134) rounded out the six-team race.
For the second straight meet to start the season, senior Evan Sherman was the Bears' frontrunner, crossing the finish line eighth overall out of 57 finishers in 18:43.2. Fellow senior Jesse Edelstein followed in 14th overall with a time of 19:07.0. Junior Tommy Gaffey (15th/19:11.5), junior Justin Hickey (18th/19:17.5) and freshman Sebastian Margetts (19th/19:18.6) rounded out Brown's top five runners, with Matthew Doherty (19:24.2) finishing 21st and Sam Colton (19:38.8) taking 29th to complete the team's top seven.
Brown women's cross country team will compete on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Nassaney Invitational on the Bryant University campus. After this weekend, both teams will have three weeks off before returning to action at the Paul Short Run on September 30.
