Cross Country Competes at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Brown cross country teams returned to competition for the first time in three weeks on Saturday morning at the Paul Short Run. One of the largest cross country events in the nation, Paul Short featured 12 races (six college, four high school and two open) throughout the day, with over 5,200 runners from more than 450 colleges and high schools.
Both Brown squads competed in the Gold Races, the highest level at the meet, which featured several power conference programs from across the nation. Brown's men took home 39th place, while the women finished 34th out of 44. Brown was also one of six Ivies to compete.
Freshman Olivia Fraga led the women's team in the six-kilometer Gold Race with a 64th place finish overall out of 393 finishers with a time of 21:28.4. Junior Isolde McManus (22:12.6), senior Katie Orchard (22:34.6), sophomore Nimrit Ahuja (22:51.6), and sophomore Julia Schriefer (23:03.2) completed the team's top five. First-year Scarlet Stimson was the sixth Bear to finish with a time of 23:12.3, followed by senior Isa Stronski (23:33.3) to complete the team's top seven.
Running the 8K distance for the first time this season, the men's team was led by junior Miles Mullins with a time of 25:33.8, followed by senior Jesse Edelstein (25:42.8) and senior Geordie Young (26:03.2). Junior Tommy Gaffey (26:16.0) was fourth, followed by junior Sam Colton (26:32.7) to complete the team's scoring five. Freshman Sebastian Margetts (27:11.4) rounded out the Bears' six finishers in 27:11.4.
In the women's 6K Open Race, Emily Mrakovcic (22:52.8) finished 21 out of 299 runners to lead Brown. Julia Antony (23:34.3), Juli Gonzalez (23:35.0) and Sara Perez (24:16.5) also represented the Bears.
The men's team also had representatives in the 8K Open Race with freshman Matthew Doherty (25:42.5) and senior Naveen Sharma (27:14.7) both competing.
The Bears will return to action next Saturday at the New England (NEICAAA) XC Championships at Franklin Park in Boston. Start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
