Field Hockey Drops Friday Night Battle at Northeastern
9/8/2023 9:12:00 PM | Field Hockey
DEDHAM, Mass. – The Brown Bears (2-1, 0-0 Ivy League) dropped a hard-fought Friday night battle at the Northeastern Huskies (4-1, 0-0 CAA), falling 3-2 at Dedham Field.
"Despite the result, we played better hockey today and made a lot of changes this week," said head coach Britt Broady. "We made steps forward in our attack but unfortunately ended up on the wrong side of the game. Credit goes to a very fast attacking Northeastern team."
Northeastern scored the night's first goal 12:48 into the opening quarter after a back-and-forth start to the match. Sarah Coyle found the back of the net to beat goalkeeper Kylee Del Monte (6 saves) off of the Huskies' first penalty corner opportunity of the game.
A Brown corner late in the first quarter nearly evened the game, but Northeastern goalkeeper Kristina Merashoff made the save on a Lexi Pellegrino shot with Imogen Govan's rebound effort swatted aside by a Husky defender.
Katie McCallum leveled the game at 1-1 early in the second quarter, finishing a feed from Govan for her first goal of the season.
The Bears had two penalty corners late in the second quarter with a chance to take the lead, but both chances came up empty.
Maria Armaganian put the Huskies back on top early in the third quarter with a penalty stroke goal 3:07 into the second half.
With 5:10 remaining in the third, first-year Zoe Lawrence drew a penalty corner opportunity and on the ensuing play, Cameron Kinsella found Pellegrino's initial shot and blasted a shot past Merashoff to tie the game.
Alex Mega tallied the game-winner with 10:57 remaining in the fourth quarter on Northeastern's fourth penalty corner of the night.
