Field Hockey Takes 2-0 Win Over Longwood
9/16/2023 3:27:00 PM | Field Hockey
OXFORD, Ohio – The Brown Bears (3-1, 0-0 Ivy League) scored in the second and third quarters against Longwood (2-6, 0-1 MAC) to come away with a shutout win over the Lancers in a neutral site game in Ohio Saturday afternoon.
"I'm very happy with our ability to play a full 60 minutes of focused and high-tempo hockey," said head coach Britt Broady. "We have been generating shot opportunities throughout all of our games, but today we did a better job of capitalizing in critical moments."
Brown and Longwood went scoreless in the opening frame with the Bears picking up the lone shot attempt and penalty corner.
Imogen Govan scored her second penalty stroke goal of the season to give the Bears a 1-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Longwood had four penalty corner opportunities before the end of the half, but managed just one shot on goal, a Kylee Del Monte save.
Jodi Porto doubled Brown's lead in the final minute of the third quarter. The senior found the rebound off Lexi Pellegrino's shot on the team's fourth corner of the game.
The Bears held the Lancers without a shot on goal in the final frame to preserve the team's second shutout of the season.
