Bedell Crowned National Champion as Gymnastics Closes Season with USAG Individual Finals

DENTON, Texas – Sophomore Julia Bedell captured the USAG collegiate national championship on floor on Saturday afternoon as part of the individual finals at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.

Bedell becomes the third USAG collegiate national champion in program history, joining all-around champion Diana Walters (2014) and former teammate Mei Li Costa, who won on bars in 2019.

Bedell (vault and floor) was one of four gymnasts competing on Saturday in the individual finals, joining teammates Abby Contello (vault), Ella Poley (bars) and Maya Davis (floor), all of whom earned First Team USAG All-America honors for qualifying for the individual finals.

Poley earns her second career All-America accolade after earning Second Team honors on bars last season. Bedell now has four All-America honors through her first two seasons, joining her First Team (vault) and Second Team (floor) honors from 2022.

Contello and Bedell represented the Bears on vault, with Contello tying for fourth place overall at 9.750. On bars, Poley averaged 9.6875 from the four judges to place eighth overall.

Bedell rounded out the competition with a winning score of 9.8875, receiving marks of 9.85, 9.90, 9.85 and 9.95 from the judges. Davis finished fifth on floor with a score of 9.825.
