Men's Lacrosse Hosts #14 Penn in Critical Ivy Matchup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (4-5, 0-2 Ivy League) return to Stevenson-Pincince Field to host the 14th-ranked Penn Quakers (4-4, 2-1 Ivy League) in a critical conference matchup this Saturday.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at noon and will broadcast locally on NESN. Fans outside New England can stream the game on ESPN+.

MILITARY AND FIRST RESPONDER APPRECIATION DAY
- Saturday's game marks Brown's Military and First Responder Appreciation Day. Members of either group can purchase discounted tickets for $5 at the ticket window with a valid ID.
- Fans can explore a Brown DPS Cruiser as well as the Providence Police Motorcycle Unit. Fans can also experience the City of Providence Mounted Command.
- The Brown DPS Honor Guard will present the colors for the National Anthem.
- Brown enters the weekend with a 4-5 overall record and 0-2 Ivy League mark. The Bears are receiving votes in all three major national polls.
- Brown averages 13.00 goals per game to rank sixth in the conference and 29th in the NCAA. Senior Devon McLane leads the Bears with 13 assists and 31 points. Sophomore Aidan McLane leads the team in goals (25) and ranks second in points (30). Six other Bears have double digit points this season.
- Brown's .888 clear percentage ranks fourth in the conference and 19th in the nation.
- Defensively, Brown allows 12.67 goals per game to rank fourth in the conference and 50th in the nation.
- Connor Theriault has started all nine games between the pipes and holds a .523 save percentage and 12.75 goals against average.
- Brown's man-down defense has allowed 11 goals I 28 attempts (.607) to rank fourth in the conference and 45th in the nation.
- Penn enters the weekend with a 4-3 overall record and 2-1 Ivy League mark. The Quakers are ranked 14th in the nation per the USILA Coaches Poll.
- The Quakers took a 9-8 overtime win over Princeton to open conference play before an 18-12 road loss at Cornell. Last weekend, Penn took a 17-16 thriller over Yale.
- Penn has played a ranked opponent in every game this season.
- Offensively, Penn averages 11.12 goals per game to rank at the bottom of the Ivy League and 44th in the nation.
- Reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Sam Handley leads the Quakers in goals (16), assists (15), points (31), and shots on goal (32). Handley's 3.88 points per game rank 41st in the NCAA.
- Outside of Handley, six Quakers have double digit points this season.
- Penn leads the conference and ranks second in the nation with a .919 clear percentage.
- Penn's man-up offense has just four goals in 20 attempts to rank 68th in the country.
- Defensively, Penn allows 12.38 goals per game to rank third in the conference and 45th in the NCAA.
- Emmet Carroll has started all eight games between the pipes and holds a .524 save percentage and 12.25 goals against mark.
- Carroll recorded 18 saves in the season-opening win over #8 Georgetown and 21 saves in the 9-8 loss against 14th-ranked Villanova.
- Penn's man-down defense has allowed 14 goals in 31 attempts (.548) to rank fifth in the conference and 58th in the nation.
- Saturday marks the 61st meeting between Brown and Penn in a series dating back to 1964.
- Brown holds a 35-25 series record against the Quakers but a 4-6 mark in the last 10 meetings.
- The Bears hold a 17-13 home record against Penn.
- Brown and Penn split the 2022 season series with the Bears taking the regular season win and the Quakers taking the win in the Ivy League semifinal.
- Senior faceoff specialist Matthew Gunty returned from injury with another strong effort against Princeton (Apr. 1).
- Gunty went 21-for-32 (.656) with eight ground balls and has won over 60% of faceoffs in six games this season. In 2023, Gunty is 116-184 (.630) at X with 50 ground balls.
- Among faceoff specialists with 100 or more faceoffs taken, he leads the Ivy League and ranks sixth in the NCAA.
- His 6.25 ground balls per game rank second in the conference and 26th in the NCAA.
- Junior Connor Theriault recorded a season-high 22 saves in the 13-11 win over sixth-ranked Villanova (Mar. 27).
- Theriault made 16 stops against UMass on Saturday (Mar. 25)
- Over the two-game stretch, Theriault recorded 38 saves against 59 shots (.644).
- On the season, he holds a .523 save percentage and 12.75 goals against average. His save percentage ranks fourth in the conference and 27th in the country.
- His 13.78 saves per game rank second in the Ivy League and 10th in the NCAA.
