PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's lacrosse team fell to No. 22 Princeton 20-16 Sunday afternoon. The game originally began on Saturday, April 15, but was suspended due to lightning with 8:41 remaining in the third quarter and restarted from that point Sunday at noon.
Claire Jeschke and Jackie Mason led the Bears with five points as Jeschke scored four goals and assisted once, while Mason scored one time and assisted four others. Mia Mascone also scored four goals, Annie Burton scored twice and assisted once, and Maddie Joyce and Leah Caputo each had one goal and one assist. Carly Camphausen scored twice and Julia Ford did so once.
Emmie Lau had a game-high 10 draws, and Lydia Bongiorno and Joyce each had three ground balls.
On Saturday, the Bears opened the scoring less than a minute into the game when Mason connected with Burton for her 22nd goal of the season. Princeton answered with the next three, but the Bears quickly tied the game after strikes by Joyce and Camphausen.
Brown ended the first quarter with the one-goal lead after Mascone, Jeschke, and Ford all tallied their firsts of the day to take the 6-5 lead into the second.
The Tigers scored six of the first seven goals in the second quarter to open up an 11-7 lead, but Jeschke got one back for the Bears with 27 seconds remaining in the half to go into the break trailing by three.
Following a weather delay due to lightning in the area that extended halftime, the Tigers opened the third with four straight goals. Then, the game was halted again due to lightning with 8:41 remaining in the third.
When the game was restarted on Sunday, Brown scored the first three goals to cut the deficit to 15-11 with 4:18 in the third, but Princeton answered back with three of their own to push their lead back to seven.
Brown outscored the Tigers 5-3 in the fourth and final quarter, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback as Princeton eventually won by four.
The Bears will return home next Saturday, April 22 for a 3:30 p.m. matchup with Cornell in their final home game of the regular season.
