PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team fell to No. 15 Penn 18-5 on Senior Day Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"I thought we battled hard at the beginning and then Penn made more plays than we did in the second quarter and down the stretch," head coach Keely McDonald '00 said. "Although it wasn't the Senior Day result that we wanted, we are so grateful to Claire Jeschke, Katie Silver, and Essie Atherton for their contribution to their program during their time at Brown."
Brown's three seniors were honored with a ceremony postgame.
Annie Burton led the Bears with three points from two goals and one assist. Greta Criqui scored twice and Jackie Mason recorded a pair of assists. Jeschke scored once and assisted once and Mia Mascone picked up one helper.
Emmie Lau led Brown with six ground balls, helping Brown edge Penn in that category 17-12.
The Bears started out hot scoring the first two goals of the game thanks to Burton and Criqui. But Penn would respond with a 13-0 run that stretched from 12:00 in the first until 6:50 remaining in the third quarter.
Criqui broke the Quaker run with her second of the day and Burton added her second and Jeschke her first in the fourth quarter, but there was too much ground to make up as Penn pulled away to secure the victory.
Margaret Woodberry made a career-high 11 saves in goal for the Bears.
Brown will wrap the regular season next Saturday, April 29 at Cornell with a 3 p.m. matchup.
