NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Bulldogs (6-4, 2-3 Ivy League) pulled away from the Brown Bears (5-6, 1-3 Ivy League) in the second half to take a 16-10 home win Saturday afternoon at Reese Stadium.
Devon McLane led the Bears offensively with a goal and three assists while Matteo Corsi, Jack Kelly, and Griffin King all added two goals apiece.
"Hats off to Yale, they were pretty efficient today and made the plays they needed to make and really punished us for a couple key mistakes," said head coach Mike Daly. "I thought we had a great start and great energy; we just didn't put those full 60 minutes together like we need to win league games."
The Bears responded to a Yale goal just 35 seconds into the opening quarter with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 5:59 remaining in the quarter. Marcus Wertheim, Aidan McLane, King, and Trevor Glavin found the back of the net for the Bears in the scoring run.
Chris Lyons ended the Bruno run with his second goal of the game and Thomas Bragg struck in the final seconds to give the Bears a 4-3 lead through 15 minutes of play.
Corsi pushed Brown's lead to 5-3 early in the second quarter but the Bulldogs responded with five straight, including two from Lyons, to take an 8-5 lead halfway through the second.
Corsi, King, and Kelly all struck in a two-and-a-half-minute span to even the score at 8-8 with 3:35 remaining in the first half. Lyons added his fifth goal of the game to cap the first half and give the Bulldogs a 9-8 lead.
After Brad Sharp and Kelly traded goals to start the third quarter, Yale scored three in a row to take a commanding 13-9 lead.
Devon's first goal of the game early in the fourth quarter cut the Bulldog lead to three, but Yale added three more before the final horn for the 16-10 win.
