2/25/2026 5:55:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UMass goalie Owen Salanger recorded 23 saves to lead the Minutemen (4-1, 0-0 A10) to an 11-8 road win over the Brown Bears (2-1, 0-0 Ivy League) Wednesday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"Hats off to UMass, they played a great game," the Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse Jon Torpey said. "They executed, their goalie stood on his head, and they took advantage of our mistakes. We have a very talented Bryant team coming in on Saturday, and I look forward to seeing how our guys respond."
Brady O'Kane and Colin Coyle traded goals early in the first quarter in a back-and-forth start to the game.
From there, Brown tallied three straight goals from Jeremy Hopsicker, Marcus Wertheim, and Jackson Wolfram to take a 4-1 lead with 2:52 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Minutemen responded with the final goal of the first quarter and all three goals in the second quarter to take a 5-4 halftime lead. Dylan Johnson scored twice for UMass in the run.
O'Kane tallied his second of the game with 5:40 remaining in the third quarter to bring the Bears back within a goal at 6-5. Robbie Granara extended the UMass lead back to two goals late in the frame with his first of the game.
Charles Kurtz scored consecutive goals to open the fourth quarter and push the UMass lead to 9-5 before Preston Evans ended the run with his first career goal with 5:17 remaining in the game.
The Minutemen added another pair of goals in the final minutes and Hopsicker completed the hat trick with two goals before the final horn to push the final score to 11-8 Minutemen.
