
Women's Lacrosse Falls at Home to #14 Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team lost to No. 14 Yale 18-6 Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
The game was tied early, but the 14-ranked Bulldogs were able to pull away in the second half to improve to 3-0 in Ivy play and 8-2 overall. Brown falls to 2-1 in conference action and 5-5 on the season.
Leah Caputo and Mia Mascone each had two points for the Bears, Caputo from two goals and Mascone with two assists. Julia Ford, Annie Burton, Maddie Joyce, and Marley Wright all also scored for the Bears.
Yale got on the board first with a pair of free position goals, but then the Bears were able to cause a couple turnovers that led to a pair for Brown. First, Burton finished on a nice behind-the-back strike, followed by Ford tying the game on a free position.
The Bulldogs started the second quarter the same as the first, with two straight goals. Caputo answered with one for Brown to cut the deficit to 4-3, but Yale would finish the first half on a 5-0 run to take the 9-3 lead into halftime.
Caputo opened the third quarter with her second goal of the afternoon, but Yale would go on to score three straight to lead 12-4 with nine minutes to play in the quarter. Joyce got on the board less than a minute later, but the Bulldogs would score the final two of the third to lead 14-5 headed into the fourth.
Yale made it a 10-goal deficit less than two minutes into the fourth quarter and was able to hang on for the remainder of the game.
The Bears continue Ivy League play next weekend at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 at Dartmouth.
