#18 Princeton Pulls Away from Men's Lacrosse in Second Half

PRINCETON, N.J. – The 18th-ranked Princeton Tigers (4-4, 2-1 Ivy League) scored six straight goals in the third quarter to break a deadlock and take a 16-12 conference win over the Brown Bears (4-5, 0-2 Ivy League) Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1952 Stadium.
Aidan McLane led the Bears with five goals with Matteo Corsi adding his second career hat trick. Devon McLane chipped in two goals and two assist for four points.
"Credit to the Princeton players and staff – they made the plays they needed to make," said head coach Mike Daly. "I thought our team competed hard and the coaching staff needs to and will find those plays."
Princeton held a 7-6 lead through 30 minutes of play following a back-and-forth first half. Brown and Princeton traded goals in the opening quarter with the Bears holding a 3-2 lead through 15 minutes. Aidan scored twice and Devon added the third Bruno goal of the quarter.
Coulter Mackesy and Jake Stevens made it 4-3 Tigers early in the second quarter before Aidan and Stevens traded goals to make it 5-4 Princeton with 11:32 remaining in the half.
Matteo Corsi scored the next two goals of the game to give the Bears a 6-5 lead halfway through the quarter.
Sam English and Jack Ringhofer tallied the half's final two goals to give the Tigers the lead at the break.
Connor Theriault recorded eight saves in the opening half with Princeton's Michael Gianforcaro making five stops. Theriault finished the game with 11 saves compared to Gianforcaro's 13 saves.
Matthew Gunty won the faceoff to start the second half and Aidan scored his fourth goal of the game 54 seconds later to even the score at 7-7, the seventh tie of the afternoon.
Gunty finished the afternoon with a 21-for-32 (.656) effort at the faceoff X with eight ground balls. Koby Ginder led the Tigers with an 11-for-32 (.344) performance with seven ground balls.
The Tigers answered with six straight goals to take a 13-7 lead with 3:40 remaining in the third. Lukas Stanat scored twice and added an assist in the six-goal run.
Two minutes later, Griffin King pushed his goal streak to 12 games to end the Tiger run and Devon added his second goal of the game with 26 seconds left in the third to make it 13-9 Tigers.
Christian Ronda and Mackesy struck six seconds apart to push Princeton's lead to 15-9 early in the fourth quarter.
The Bears responded as Corsi recorded his third, Aidan scored his fifth, and Wells Bligh scored his first of the game to make it 15-12 with 9:10 remaining.
Princeton ended the Bruno run as Ringhofer added his second of the game with 5:34 remaining to give the Tigers a four-goal lead.

GAME NOTES
- Charlie Cave and Trey Taylor both finished the game with two caused turnovers to pace the Bears.
- Brown finished the game with a 61-45 edge in shots but the Tigers held the 27-25 shots on goal advantage.
- Neither team found an EMO goal with Brown finishing 0-for-2 and Princeton 0-for-1.
- Brown finished the afternoon 25-for-28 (.893) on clears with Princeton finishing 24-for-27 (.889). The Bears had 17 turnovers compared to 14 for the Tigers.
