
Baseball to Face Penn State in Weekend Series in Cary

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team will make its final southern trip of the season this weekend, heading to the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. for a four-game series against Penn State. The series will conclude a string of 11-straight games on the road to open the season for Brown.

SCOUTING BROWN (0-7)
- The Bears are in search of their first victory of the 2023 season after dropping three games last weekend at New Orleans, and previously four against Georgia State to open the season.
- Freshman Dylan Reid has been strong in his first two career starts, holding a 3.60 ERA while allowing just eight hits and striking out seven through 10.0 innings of work and holding opponents to a .229 batting average.
- Fellow freshman Carter Rasmussen was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after striking out seven in 3.0 innings of relief on Sunday at New Orleans. Eight of Rasmussen's 17 outs this season have come by way of the K, allowing one run on four hits through 4.1 IP.
- Sophomore shortstop Gunner Boree has reached base in six straight games and drawn a walk in every game except the season opener. He also carries a three-game hitting streak into the weekend.
- Senior catcher Jacob Burley tagged the Bears first home run of the season last Sunday at New Orleans.
SCOUTING PENN STATE (7-4)
- The Nittany Lions have played nine consecutive games in North Carolina, eight of which have been in Cary. Most recently, the team is coming off a 15-5 loss at No. 14 UNC on Wednesday.
- PSU has faced fellow Ivy Dartmouth, topping the Big Green 8-2 last Saturday. They also split two games against Holy Cross earlier this week, losing 11-5 before rebounding on Monday with a 15-2 win.
- PSU won its season-opener over then-No. 22 Miami 9-5 on the road.
- As a team, the Nittany Lions are batting .308 this season and are averaging 7.81 runs per game.
- Senior outfielder Tayven Kelley has worked his way into the middle of the order and leads the team with a .364/.417/.636 slash line for a 1.053 OPS. He has scored 11 runs and added nine RBIs, tying for the team lead with two homers.
- Pitcher Travis Luensmann is 3-0 on the year, holding a 2.40 ERA and has struck out 12 while allowing just eight hits over 15.0 IP.
- As a staff, the Nittany Lions hold a 5.03 ERA.
