Men's Lacrosse Returns to Conference Play at #18 Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (4-4, 0-1 Ivy League) head south to take on the 18th-ranked Princeton Tigers (3-4, 1-1 Ivy League) Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1952 Stadium.
Saturday's conference matchup is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 4-4 overall record and 0-1 Ivy League mark. The Bears snapped a three-game skid with a 13-11 win over sixth-ranked Villanova on Monday (Mar. 27).
- Brown averages 13.12 goals per game to rank sixth in the Ivy League and tied for 26th in the NCAA. Senior Devon McLane leads the team with 11 assists and 27 points. Devon's younger brother, Aidan, leads the team with 20 goals and ranks second on the team with 25 points.
- Brown's man-up offense has nine goals in 32 attempts (.281) to rank fifth in the conference.
- Defensively, Brown allows 12.25 goals per game to rank fifth in the conference.
- Goalie Connor Theriault has started all eight games and holds a .538 save percentage and 12.27 goals against average. His 14.13 saves per game rank second in the conference and sixth in the NCAA.
- Brown's man-down defense has allowed 10 goals in 27 attempts (.630) to rank third in the conference.
- Brown clears the ball at a .888 rate to rank fourth in the conference and 18th in the country.
- Matthew Gunty holds a .625 win-rate at X to rank second in the Ivy League and 11th in the country among players with at least 100 faceoffs taken. As a team, Brown ranks second in the Ivy League and 20th in the nation with a .557 win-rate.
- Princeton enters the weekend with a 3-4 overall record and 1-1 Ivy League mark. The Tigers are the 18th-ranked team in the nation per the USILA Coaches Poll.
- Princeton opened the season with wins over Monmouth and Manhattan.
- The Tigers then dropped four straight against #6 Maryland, Georgetown, #6 Rutgers, and #17 Penn, the latter two both in overtime. Princeton trounced Yale, 23-10, last weekend in New Jersey to get back in the win column.
- Princeton's offense averages 13.57 goals per game to rank third in the conference and tied for 18th in the nation.
- Sophomore Coulter Mackesy leads the team with 27 goals and 35 points. Sam English and Alexander Vardaro are tied for the team-lead with 12 apiece.
- Princeton's man-up offense ranks third in the conference and tied for 23rd in the nation with 13 goals in 29 attempts (.448).
- Defensively, Princeton allows 10.71 goals per game to rank second in the conference and 19th in the NCAA. Senior Griffen Rakower has played in six games with five starts between the pipes. In 155:12 minutes of play, he holds a .586 save percentage and 11.21 goals against average.
- Junior Michael Gianforcaro has played in seven games with two starts. In 269:44 minutes of play, he holds a .579 save percentage and 10.01 goals against average. Gianforcaro has started each of the last two games.
- Princeton's man-down defense has allowed 14 goals in 28 attempts (.500) to rank sixth in the conference and tied for 65th in the country.
- The Tigers clear the ball at a .893 rate to rank third in the conference and 16th in the nation.
- At the faceoff X, sophomore Koby Ginder holds a .530 win-rate (35-66) with 14 ground balls. He took the majority of the faceoffs in the most recent win over Yale. Junior Tyler Sandoval is 48-for-107 (.449) at X with 16 ground balls.
- Saturday marks the 61st meeting between Brown and Princeton in a series dating back to 1964.
- Princeton holds a 33-27 series record and an 18-11 home record against Brown.
- Brown has a 6-4 record in the last 10 meeting and look to make it two straight road wins over the Tigers.
- Brown grabbed a 13-11 road win over sixth-ranked Villanova on Monday to kick off Spring Recess on campus.
- Connor Theriault recorded 22 saves and Devon McLane added six points in the win.
- Nine different Bears recorded goals and 10 Bears recorded a point in the win.
- Per Inside Lacrosse's Matt Kinnear, Monday marked the third time the Bears have beaten a Villanova team ranked inside the top-6 on the road.
- In 2018, Brown beat #4 Villanova, 12-9. In 2016, the third-ranked Bears took a 19-8 win over fifth-ranked 'Nova.
- Junior Connor Theriault recorded a season-high 22 saves in the 13-11 win over sixth-ranked Villanova (Mar. 27).
- Theriault made 16 stops against UMass on Saturday (Mar. 25) and has 38 saves against 59 shots (.644) over the last two games.
- On the season, he holds a .538 save percentage and 12.24 goals against average.
- His save percentage ranks fourth in the conference and 17th in the country.
- His 14.13 saves per game rank second in the Ivy League and sixth in the NCAA.
- He ranks second on the team with 22 ground balls and has at least one in 21 straight games.
- The captain recorded six points against Villanova on Monday to reach the 100-point milestone on the number.
- Devon recorded his 12th career hat trick and ninth career multi-assist game in the win.
- Devon was added to the Tewaaraton Award Watchlist in the second round of additions, announced on Thursday (Mar. 30).
- McLane joins junior Connor Theriault, who was among the initial 50 named to the Watchlist.
- The McLane brothers have combined for 36 goals and 52 points this season.
- The duo account for 62% of Brown's goal-scoring and 31.9% of Brown's point production.
