
Men's Lacrosse Continues Road Trip with Monday Meeting with #7 Villanova

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (3-4, 0-1 Ivy League) take on the seventh-ranked Villanova Wildcats (7-1, 0-0 Big East) in non-conference action Monday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 3-4 overall record and 0-1 Ivy League mark. Brown has dropped consecutive one-goal games, falling to Harvard in overtime last weekend before dropping a 10-9 regulation loss at UMass yesterday.
- The Bears hold wins over Providence College, Vermont, and Stony Brook this season.
- Brown's offense averages 13.14 goals per game to rank fourth in the conference. Sophomore Aidan McLane leads the team with 19 goals and 23 points.
- Syracuse transfer Matteo Corsi recorded his first career hat trick last weekend against the Crimson and is one of six Bears with double-digit points this season.
- Between the pipes, Connor Theriault has started all seven games and holds a .514 save percentage and 12.45 goals against average. He has recorded 16 saves in consecutive games, a season-high.
- Villanova enters Monday as the seventh-ranked team in the nation with a 7-1 record.
- After opening the season with a win over Penn State and a loss to Yale, the Wildcats have won six straight, taking down #10 Delaware, Hofstra, Drexel, #15 Penn, Monmouth, and Navy in that order.
- The Wildcats average 13.25 goals per game to rank 24th in the NCAA. Patrick Daly leads the team with 26 goals through eight games and entered the weekend ranked 13th in the NCAA with 3.25 goals per game.
- Matt Campbell ranks second on the team with 21 goals and is tied for 36th in the NCAA with 2.62 goals per game. Campbell also leads Villanova with 15 assists and his 4.50 points per game are tied for 22nd in the NCAA.
- Villanova's man-up offense and man-down defense both rank 19th in the nation. The offense clicks at .464 (13-28) while the defense clicks at .742 (23-31).
- The Wildcats allow 9.88 goals per game to rank 12th in the country and have not allowed more than eight goals in the month of March.
- Goalie Will Vitton has started all eight games and holds a .542 save percentage and 9.66 goals against average.
- The Wildcats rank in the middle of the NCAA on clears at .861. Opponents clear the ball at an .840 rate against Villanova.
- Matthew Gunty and Villanova's Justin Coppola split last season's matchup with Gunty taking 15 wins to Coppola's 16.
- Both finished the game with seven ground balls.
- Entering Monday's matchup, Gunty is holds a .622 win-rate at X (92-148) with 41 ground balls.
- Coppola enters Monday with a .562 win-rate (96-175) with 58 ground balls. He ranks inside the top-20 nationally in ground balls per game at 7.25.
- Monday marks the sixth meeting between Brown and Villanova in a series dating back to 2016.
- The Bears broke the series deadlock with a 15-14 thriller last year at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
- Brown is 2-0 on the road against the Wildcats.
- Brown took a 15-14 win over Villanova last season in Providence to improve to 3-1 on the season.
- Devon McLane recorded his fourth goal and eighth point of the game late in the third quarter to make it 15-8 Bears.
- From there, Villanova fought back with Brown holding off the late charge for the one-goal win.
- Connor Theriault recorded 12 saves in the win, including eight in the second half.
- The game against the Wildcats marks the first in program history played on a Monday.
- The Bears are beginning Brown's spring recess before resuming classes on April 2.
- Sophomore Tyler Blackburn set career-highs with five ground balls and four caused turnovers against UMass (Mar. 25).
- The La Jolla, California native is tied for the team-lead in caused turnovers with seven alongside Mark Witt.
