Men's Lacrosse Renews Rivalry at UMass Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (3-3, 0-1 Ivy League) hit the road to take on the UMass Minutemen (4-3, 0-0 A10) Saturday afternoon at Garber Field in Amherst.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 3-3 overall record and 0-1 Ivy League mark after dropping a 16-15 overtime game to Harvard last weekend. The Bears hold wins over Providence College, Vermont, and Stony Brook this season.
- Brown's offense averages 13.83 goals per game to rank third in the conference and tied for 18th nationally. Sophomore Aidan McLane leads the team with 17 goals and is tied for the team-lead with 21 points.
- Syracuse transfer Matteo Corsi recorded his first career hat trick last weekend against the Crimson and is tied for fifth on the team with nine points.
- Between the pipes, Connor Theriault has started all six games and holds a .497 save percentage and 12.84 goals against average. He has recorded double-digit saves in five games this season.
- UMass enters the weekend with a 4-3 overall record and is receiving votes in the most recent USILA Coaches Poll.
- The Minutemen opened the season with wins over Army and UMass Lowell before falling to Boston University and Yale.
- UMass got back in the win column with victories over UAlbany and Vermont before falling at home last weekend to sixth-ranked Rutgers.
- The UMass offense averages 8.86 goals per game to rank 63rd in the nation.
- Gabriel Procyk leads the team with 15 goals and 20 points through seven games. Three of his goals have come man-up. Three other Minutemen, including Mike Tobin, have double-digit points this season.
- The Minuteman man-up offense has six goals in 16 attempts (.375) to rank 41st in the nation.
- Defensively, UMass allows 8.86 goals per game to rank fifth in the NCAA.
- Goalie Matt Knote has started all seven games and holds a .632 save percentage and 8.71 goals against average. His save percentage leads the NCAA and his goals against average ranks third in the country.
- The Minutemen have allowed six goals in 23 attempts (.739) to rank 15th in the nation.
- As a team, UMass clears the ball at a .809 rate (123-152) to rank 61st in the country.
- Redshirt sophomore Caleb Hammett has taken the bulk of the faceoffs for UMass this season. He holds a .513 win-rate (59-115) along with 22 ground balls.
- Saturday marks the 54th meeting between Brown and UMass in a series dating back to 1963. Brown holds a 28-25 all-time series record against the Minutemen and a 15-12 road record.
- The Minutemen have won the last three meetings in the series and hold a 6-4 record in the last 10 meetings.
- Brown averages 13.83 goals per game to rank third in the Ivy League alongside Cornell. The Bears and Big Red are tied for 16th in the NCAA.
- Brown's 7.50 assists per game rank third in the Ivy League and tied for 20th in the nation.
- Brown's .899 clear percentage ranks third in the Ivy League and 12th in the NCAA.
- Sophomore Aidan McLane recorded a career-high seven goals in Brown's overtime loss to Harvard (Mar. 18).
- McLane matched a career-high with seven points, previously set with a five-goal effort at Stony Brook (Mar. 4).
- The Westfield, New Jersey native leads the team with 17 goals and is tied for the team-lead in points (21).
- The Fairfield transfer has 16 goals in the last four games.
- Senior faceoff specialist Matthew Gunty posted his best performance of the season against Harvard (Mar. 18).
- The Bethesda, Maryland native went 20-for-27 at the faceoff X with 13 ground balls.
- On the season, Gunty is 92-for-148 (.622) at X to rank second in the Ivy League and eighth in the NCAA among specialists with 100 or more faceoffs taken.
- Gunty's 6.83 ground balls per game rank second in the conference and 20th in the nation.
