No. 25 Women’s Water Polo Defeats No. 19 LIU and Pomona-Pitzer to Begin Season 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 25 Brown women's water polo (4-0) earned a pair of victories on day two of the Bruno Classic to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Bears defeated No. 19 LIU 13-6 and Pomona-Pitzer 10-5 on Saturday in the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
BROWN DEFEATED NO. 19 LIU 13-6
Brown opened the game with the first four goals – one apiece for Claire Pisani, Ashley Penner, Bryn Gioffredi and Tallulah Clancy. The quarter ended with the Bears ahead 4-1. Brown carried a 7-2 lead into the second half, scoring five unanswered to end the third and well into the fourth.
Overall, Pisani, Sierra Martin and Penner each finished with two goals and Shauna Franke improved to 2-0 with 14 saves to upend the nationally-ranked Sharks.
BROWN DEFEATED POMONA-PITZER 10-5
Pomona-Pitzer took a 2-0 lead, but the resilient Bears scored five consecutive goals to take the lead. The rally began in the closing 90 seconds of the opening period as Alexandra Love found the net. With 40 seconds remaining in the first, Penner knotted the contest at 2-all.
Brown took a 5-2 lead into the second half and put the closing stamp on a perfect day with a goal at the 4:33 mark in the fourth.
Franke made nine saves and moved to 3-0 on the season.

The final day of the Bruno Classic begins at 11:30 a.m. with Brown hosting Austin College, followed by No. 14 (T) Wagner at 3 p.m.
