Men's Hockey Falls to St. Lawrence
2/3/2023 10:13:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The St. Lawrence Saints (14-13-0, 9-6-0 ECAC) scored three goals in the first period and skated to a 6-0 win over the Brown Bears (8-12-2, 4-9-2 ECAC) Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
"It was not a great night for Brown Hockey, we were really off. The 14 days in between games was obviously not beneficial for us, we looked really rusty and it showed," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "The guys have to find a way to overcome the loss of Caron and I don't think we really helped Zacharewicz very much in his first collegiate start.
"We'll get back after it, it's disappointing, disheartening, and I don't want that game to ever happen again. But we'll respond tomorrow with a much better effort"
Freshman goaltender Jacob Zacharewicz made his first collegiate start and saw his first significant action of the season. The Riverhead, New York native finished the game with 20 saves.
The Saints picked up goals from Jan Lasak, Luc Salem, and Max Dorrington in the opening period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Dorrington's tally came at 16:30 of the frame on the power play.
Brown responded in the second period and had several scoring chances, but were unable to beat Saints goaltender Emil Zetterquist (21 saves). Gavin Puskar's breakaway chance early in the frame was turned aside by Zetterquist and Nathan Plessis hit the post three minutes later.
Ryan Shostak had a breakaway chance late in the second but Zetterquist again made the save.
Ty Naaykens scored the Saints' second power play goal of the night at 4:29 of the third period and Drake Burgin made it 5-0 at 6:45 of the frame. Aleksi Peltonen capped the night with his third of the season with 3:20 remaining in the third.
Brown closes the weekend series tomorrow night against the Clarkson Golden Knights (11-13-3, 5-8-2 ECAC). Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will stream on ESPN+. Click here to purchase tickets.
