PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Brown men's hockey standout Steve King '91 was inducted into the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame. King's induction came during the Providence Bruins game Friday night at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
King arrived on College Hill in the Fall of 1987 following a stellar high school career at Bishop Hendricken. King, an East Greenwich, Rhode Island native, was a two-time All State selection at Hendricken.

While at Brown, King played in 104 career games and tallied 56 goals and 33 assists for 89 points. His 56 career goals are tied for 11th-most in program history. King scored 19 goals in both his junior and senior seasons to lead the team.
Following his career at Brown, King was selected by the New York Rangers in the 1991 NHL Supplemental Draft. He went on to play eight professional seasons in the NHL, AHL, and IHL. King ended with 67 career NHL games – split between the Rangers and Ducks.
In 280 career AHL games, King tallied 145 goals and 100 assists. He joined the Providence Bruins late in the 1998-99 season and helped the club capture the 1999 Calder Cup, the first and only P-Bruins Championship.
Joining King as 2023 inductees to the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame were John Hynes, Jeff Jillson, Babe Mousseau, and Bill Thayer. The 2023 Induction dinner is set for August 19 at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet in Cranston.
King is the fourth Bear inducted to the Rhode Island HHOF in recent years. Jim Fullerton, Bob Gaudreau '66, and Art Lesieur were inducted in 2020 and 2021.
