PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (1-1, 0-0 Ivy League) turned a 6-5 third quarter lead into a 10-5 lead by the fourth quarter and went on to take a 13-7 home win over the Providence College Friars (2-2, 0-0 Big East) Tuesday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

With the win, Brown sets up an Ocean State Cup Championship at Bryant later this spring.

"I thought we played a pretty clean first half and then we scored the ball in the second half," said head coach Mike Daly. "We just shot a little better in the second half that got us into those three-, four-, and five-goal leads and then it's a little easier to play defense and to win faceoffs. I thought it was a good team win.

"I thought the defense carried the day and did a great job with four freshmen out there at times and Connor Theriault was Connor Theriault in goal."

After a scoreless start to the game, Brown jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals from Trevor Glavin and Matteo Corsi with 9:56 and 8:51 remaining in the first quarter, respectively. For Corsi, it marked his first goal as a Bear.

The Friars responded to close out the opening 15 minutes with goals from Jack Horrigan and two from Michael Chabra to take a 3-2 lead. Patrick McAleavey made it 4-2 Friars early in the second quarter.

Trailing by two goals, Logan Paff and Corsi scored goals 22 seconds apart to tie the game with 9:00 remaining in the first half. Freshman Marcus Wertheim capped the Bruno run and made it 5-4 Bears with his first career goal with 4:26 remaining in the half.

Chabra and Ben Locke traded goals to end the second quarter with Brown holding a 6-5 lead.

Brown turned a one-goal game into a five-goal game in the third quarter while holding the Friars scoreless in the frame. Brandon Bergner and Aidan McLane both recorded their first collegiate goals in the Bruno run.

Trevor Yeboah-Kodie tallied the final game of the quarter just five seconds after Aidan McLane's tally following a Matthew Gunty faceoff win.

Brown added three goals in the final quarter with Devon McLane, Paff, and Griffin King finding the back of the net.

GAME NOTES

Brown finished the game with a 49-31 edge in shots and a 29-15 edge in shots on goal.
Between the pipes, Connor Theriault recorded eighth saves to pick up the win. Providence's James Corasaniti recorded 16 saves in the loss.
The Bears dominated the faceoff battle, winning 19-for-23 with Gunty finishing 15-for-18 with eight ground balls. Dash Sachs finished 4-for-5 with three ground balls.
As a team, Brown held a 28-11 edge in ground balls. Gibson Linnehan led Brown poles with five ground balls and added an assist for the second straight game.
The Bears went 23-for-24 on clears with PC finishing 15-for-18. Both teams finished with 15 turnovers.
Providence went 2-for-5 on EMO with Brown finishing 0-for-4.

Brown hits the road for the first time in 2023 to take on the Vermont Catamounts (2-1, 0-0 AE) Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field in Burlington. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
