DENVER -Â Brown women's tennis' five-match winning streak came to a halt Sunday afternoon at No. 39 Denver, 5-2.
The Bears fall to 6-2 on the year, while the Pioneers improve to 4-2.
Brown won the doubles point behind great efforts from senior Britany Lau and sophomore Addison Ahlstrom (6-3) and freshman Phoebe Peus and sophomore Lindsey Hofflander (6-3).
"We continue to play very disciplined doubles with a lot of clarity," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser.
Junior Olivia Mariotti was the lone singles winner for Brown at sixth singles. Mariotti bounced back to win the final two sets after losing the first (3-6, 6-4, 7-5).
"In singles, we fought hard, but when Denver raised their level in the last stages of most singles matches, we didn't respond the same way and had too many loose errors that cost us valuable games and eventually matches. Olivia competed well the entire match and was clutch in crucial moments. She did a great job staying calm in between points and looking confident and poised no matter what happened in the previous point. That is an area we need to address as a team. There are a lot of takeaways from this match and I look forward to seeing how the team responds tomorrow."
