Denver Trip Ends with Close Loss to No. 53 Colorado State for Women's Tennis
2/20/2023 5:51:00 PM | Women's Tennis
DENVER -Â Brown women's tennis dropped a close match, 4-3, to No. 53 Colorado State Monday afternoon in Denver.
"Today's match was a nail-biter until the last match on the court," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "Even though the match didn't go our way, there are many takeaways we are bringing back to sea level. Our players were challenged and asked to get out of their comfort zone in every match this weekend, which is exactly why we expose them to these types of matches and environments."
Doubles was once again a strong suite for the Bears. Senior Britany Lau and sophomore Addison Ahlstrom won a hard fought match at first doubles (7-5), as did freshman Vivian Miller and junior Nora Lee at third doubles. (6-4).
"We continue to find a way to start singles play up one point after doubles. Nora and Vivian played with more clarity today to win the first doubles set with Addie and Brit finding a way in a closely contested set."
Colorado State jumped ahead to a 2-1 advantage after winning third and first singles. Lau then took second singles (7-5, 7-5), the Rams won fifth singles, and Lee secured sixth singles (6-4, 7-6(12) ) to even the match at three. Colorado State then took fourth singles to close it out.
"In singles, Britany played experienced tennis beating a streaky opponent with great defense and selective net play. Nora tied the score at 3-3 with an absolutely epic second set tiebreaker which she won 14-12. Nora was fearless and didn't back down even when facing set points against her. She kept swinging through her shots and kept relentlessly coming to the net, putting pressure on her opponent until the last point."
