PHILADELPHIA – The Brown men's basketball team dropped the second game of its weekend back-to-back, 90-69 at Penn Saturday evening.
"It was a really disappointing, challenging night tonight," head coach Mike Martin '04 said. "We just weren't good enough. It starts with me and my coaching, but we've got to play better than we did.
"I don't think that's who we are. That's what I said to the team in the locker room afterwards. I don't think what we saw this weekend is who we are, but we have to own that it is who we were this weekend. I'm confident we will learn from it."
The Bears never led in this one as Penn jumped out to a 9-0 advantage to start the game and held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Paxson Wojcik scored a career-high 24 points for Brown and Nana Owusu-Anane grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to go with his five points and three blocks. Kino Lilly Jr. had 12 points and four assists.
The Quakers used a 56.3% shooting performance in the first half to jump out to a 47-29 lead at the break. Penn's offense only got hotter in the second half, shooting 61.3% from the field. On the game, the Quakers hit 58.7% of their shots and 42.1% of their threes.
Brown got hot from deep late, connecting on six threes over the final ten minutes of the game, including five during a 21-5 scoring stretch that brought the deficit down from 34 to 18. But with only four minutes to play from there, it was too late.
The Bears have two games remaining on their regular season schedule, the first of which will be next Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at Columbia.
