Women's Fencing Posts Best Finish at Ivy League Round Robins Since 2013

ITHACA, N.Y. – Brown women's fencing closed the Ivy League Round Robins with a 14-13 victory over Cornell to close the tournament with two team victories.
Brown's 2-4 record and fifth-place finish mark the best for the Bears since taking fourth in 2013 with a 3-3 record. Five individuals tallied two individual wins over the Big Red to propel the Bears to victory.
"I am extremely proud of our women's fencing team who achieved a historic two wins at the Ivy League Championships," said head coach Alex Ripa. "Their fighting spirit and support of each other carried the day, and this weekend's result is the cherry on top of one of our best seasons to date! We are excited to keep building on our success!"
Overall, Casey Chan posted a 9-9 record in the sabre to finish ninth among all competitors. Alexandra Tzou and Rebecca Whang compiled 7-10 and 7-11 records, respectively.
The trio of Chan, Tzou, and Whang each posted 2-1 records in the win over the Big Red.
Anika Breker finished the weekend with a 10-8 record in the foil to finish ninth among all competitors. Breker picked up two wins over Cornell, including the deciding point, after posting two victories in yesterday's win over Yale.
In the epée, Sofia Yee-Wadsworth took ninth with a 5-12 overall record, including a crucial 2-1 record against Cornell, with Arianna Baffa finishing 11th with a 4-11 mark. Daria Smuk posted a 5-7 overall record in the epée.
The Bears compete in the NEIFC Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 25) in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
