
Women's Basketball Runs Past Cornell in 76-48 Win

ITHACA, N.Y. – Brown women's basketball ran past Cornell for a 76-48 win on Saturday (Feb. 11). The Bears finished with four players in double figures in the victory.
The 28-point win for the Bears was the largest margin of victory in an Ivy League game since a 35-point win over Columbia on February 18, 1995. The win gave Brown its third Ivy League win, matching the most wins in Ivy play since 2017-18.
Brown (10-12. 3-7 Ivy) were led by Isabella Mauricio, who scored 22 points and Kyla Jones who added 20. Both Grace Arnolie and Alyssa Moreland had 10 points. Mauricio led the Bears in the first half with 19 points, while Jones scored 14 of her 20 points after halftime.
The Bears shared the ball well, dishing out 16 assists on 28 made baskets. Jones, Moreland, and Lexi Love had three assists each.
Brown finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor and from three-point range. Mauricio went 6-for-8 from downtown with Arnolie going 3-for-7, with all three makes coming in the fourth quarter.
Ada Anamekwe led Brown with eight rebounds and Moreland finished the game with six. The Bears won the turnover battle 23-15 and turned that into a 25-9 advantage in points off turnovers. Moreland finished the game leading Brown with four steals.
The Bears dominated both the first and fourth quarters in a game that featured big runs for the Bears. In the first quarter, Brown shot 54 percent from the floor and held Cornell (9-14, 2-8 Ivy) to 11 percent (2-for-18) from the floor. Back-to-back threes from Mauricio pushed Brown's lead to 10-2 and baskets from Moreland and Mauricio put the Bears up 14-2. Three free throws from Gianna Aiello gave Brown a 19-6 lead after one.
Brown's offense cooled in the second and third quarters, shooting 41 and 36 percent, respectively, while Cornell found a rhythm. The Big Red won the second quarter by three and used a 14-4 run to start the second half to pull within two at 43-41 with four minutes left in the quarter.
The Bears responded with a three-point play from Moreland and a bucket from Anamekwe and a free throw from Arnolie kept the Bears up four heading into the fourth quarter.
Jones hit three free throws to start the fourth and Arnolie and Mauricio hit back-to-back threes to push the lead to 13. The run continued with two more threes from Arnolie and a layup by Jones as Brown's lead increased to 24. The Bears finished off a 23-0 run with a layup by Jones and won the quarter 27-3 earn the win.
UP NEXT
Brown will return home for its next three games, including two games next weekend. The Bears will host Princeton on Friday (Feb. 17) before taking on Penn on Saturday (Feb. 18).
