Men’s Basketball Pushes #16 USC to Limit in Setback

LOS ANGELES – The score wasn't indicative of how close the game was, as Brown – who trailed by as much as 15, tied the game late, but No. 16/20 USC (3-1) was able to defeat the Bears (1-4) 81-70 at the Galen Center on Sunday.
Kino Lilly Jr. posted 24 points and a career-high six assists, Nana Owusu-Anane collected his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Kalu Anya was 5-of-7 with 13 points and nine boards and Felix Kloman set a career mark with 11 points – nine from deep.
FIRST HALF
Brown's furious second half rally cut the USC lead that was as high as 15 to a one-possession game at the half, 35-32. The Bears went on a 14-2 run, capped by a Kloman corner triple to end the opening stanza. Brown's defense held the Trojans to two points in the final 6:23 of the first half.
Owusu-Anane went 4-of-6 with nine points and eight rebounds, Kloman posted eight points and three rebounds, Lilly Jr. collected seven points and four assists and Anya added six boards.
Brown outrebounded USC 28-22 and dominated second-chance points (11-2), and bench points (10-0).
Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier combined for 26 points and seven three-pointers in the first.
SECOND HALF
Lilly Jr. began the second with a jumper, making it a one-point game.
Moments later, Kalu Anya soared for a rebound "from the rafters" (Scott Cordischi) for a second chance bucket for the Bears.
Down 10 with 10 minutes remaining, Brown attempted another comeback as a razzle dazzle by Kino led to a corner three by Kloman.
Minutes later, Kloman's steal and Anya's putback dunk cut the Trojan lead before Lilly Jr. took over to make it 66-all with 4:53 remaining in regulation.
Anya stripped USC going up for a layup with 2:44 to go as Brown regained possession, but Brown was called for a technical foul at the 2:11 mark to allow USC to extend its lead for a six-point cushion.
NOTES
Lilly Jr. is now No. 8 in program history in three-pointers made with 160… he reached double figures for the 50th time as a Bear… Lilly set a new career-high in assists… tonight was Owusu-Anane's eighth career double-double and fourth of the season… Kloman reached double figures for the first time as a Bear tonight.
