Men’s Basketball Cruises Past RIC for First Win, 92-51

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Behind points from 15 different players, the Brown men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season in a strong 92-51 victory over Rhode Island College on Thursday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Nana Owusu-Anane scored all of his team-high 16 points in the first half on 4-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range while also going 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Aaron Cooley tallied 15 points on 5-of-7 from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Kimo Ferrari went 3-for-4 from long range in a nine-point effort, Luke Paragon tallied eight points on a 3-for-3 night shooting while connecting on both of his three-point attempts. Landon Lewis, N'famara Dabo and Owusu-Anane all tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
The Bears played a disciplined game, committing just nine fouls in the contest and only seven turnovers, while coming away with 16 steals and forcing 22 RIC turnovers. Brown held a 45-34 rebounding edge, including 14-6 on the offensive glass and outscored the Anchormen 21-2 off turnovers.
FIRST HALF
RIC started fast, taking an early 6-0 lead in first minute and hit a three-pointer to extend their lead to 15-11 at the first media timeout.
Owusu-Anane carried Brown throughout the first half, scoring 12 of the team's first 15 points, and hitting his first three shots, including two from downtown. He tied the game 14-14 with two free throws at the 14:49 mark, which was part of a 7-0 run that put Brown on top for good.
Alexander Lesburt Jr. connected on a free throw three midway through the first half to extend the run to 13-3 and bring the Bears lead to 24-18. The Anchormen clawed back to within three at 24-21, but the Bears took control with a big 14-0 run and connected on three of their final four shots to carry a 21-point lead into the locker room, 48-27.
SECOND HALF
RIC would get no closer than 18 just under five minutes into the second half. Lesburt Jr. hit a three-pointer to snap Brown's 1-for-11 skid and get the advantage back to 63-39 at the under-12 media timeout. The shot helped spur a 13-3 run for the Bears that built the lead to 70-42 at the under-eight media timeout.
Paragon sank a triple with 2:01 remaining that grew the lead to 40 for the first time and a dunk by Adrian Uchidiuno in the final minute brought the lead to a game-high 41 and the final score of 92-51.
UP NEXT
The Bears will hit the road for a trip to the West Coast this weekend where they will take on USC this Sunday evening at 8 p.m. ET on the Pac 12 Network.
