Men's Hockey Falls at 10th-Ranked Quinnipiac
11/10/2023 10:06:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
HAMDEN, Conn. – The 10th-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats (6-3-1, 2-0-1 ECAC) pulled away from the Brown Bears (2-3-0, 1-3-0 ECAC) at M&T Bank Arena, taking a 5-1 conference win on Friday night.
"You have to be on your game from the drop of the puck when you're playing against one of the best teams in the country, which Quinnipiac is," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "I thought we were pretty good in the first and then they overwhelmed us a little bit and we struggled. That's two games in a row where we had a good first and got away from what we were doing.
"Tomorrow for us – how do we respond to adversity? We need to be a lot better and Princeton is an excellent hockey team. Our goal is to come out and play better and focus on ourselves and what we need to do. If we need to make adjustments with lineups, we'll make adjustments. My expectation is we'll be a much different hockey team for a complete 60 minutes tomorrow."
Andon Cerbone struck on the power play 12:24 into the opening period to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. His goal was assisted by Collin Graf and Jayden Lee.
Ryan St. Louis struck for his sixth of the season just over a minute later to even the score. The sophomore collected a pass from Ryan Bottrill and went top shelf to beat Quinnipiac goaltender Matej Marinov (13 saves). Nick Traggio picked up the secondary assist on the marker.
Jacob Quillan beat Brown goaltender Tyler Shea (45 saves) in the first minute of the second period to make it 2-1 Bobcats. Graf and Sam Lipkin assisted on the goal.
Minutes later, Quinnipiac struck again on the power play with Lipkin finding the back of the net to make it 3-1 Bobcats.
Alex Power made it 4-1 Bobcats early in the second period with his first goal of the season. Anthony Cipollone and Matthew McGroarty picked up the assists.
Collin Graf added a goal with 2:40 remaining in the third to push the score to 5-1.
