Dadzie's Late Goal Lifts Men's Soccer to 1-0 Win Over Dartmouth
10/28/2023 9:40:00 PM | Men's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Kojo Dadzie shifted through the Dartmouth defense and found the back of the net in the 81st minute to lift the Brown men's soccer team to a 1-0 win on Senior Night.
The Bears improve to 5-4-6 and 2-0-4 in the Ivy League and increase their unbeaten streak to 10 games, while the Big Green fall to 4-8-2 and 2-3-1 in the conference. Senior goalkeeper Hudson Blatteis tallied four saves for fifth clean sheet in seven starts.
With the victory, Brown moves into fourth place with 10 points in the league with one game left to play.
"Great game for the boys tonight, always nice to come away with three points in the Ivy League," said Scott Bratt, Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair. "We've been asking these guys for a while to be more productive in the final third. We've been great at keeping clean sheets and great defensively but have struggled to score goals. Tonight it was fantastic to see the boys find a way to win against a really good Dartmouth team. It's a really competitive league and every point counts, so we've put ourselves in a good position going into a great final game at Yale and we have a chance to make this season memorable."
The Bears put five shots on goal in the first half. The best chance came in the 39th minute when Sophomore Jamin Gogo Peters was fouled inside the box and senior Charlie Adams' penalty kick was saved.
Physicality ramped up in the second half. Blatteis came through with saves in the 58th, 62nd and 74th minutes. For Brown, Junior Jack Cloherty and freshman Iyke Dafe fired shots in the 71st and 78th minutes.
The goal came in the 81st minute when freshman Lorenzo Amaral sent a cross to Dadzie, who fired through a pair of Dartmouth defenders for the goal.
The Big Green had one final opportunity at the buzzer, but the shot banged off the crossbar.
Prior to the match, the Bears honored their eight seniors: Dadzie, Blatteis, Cloherty, Adams, Taha Kina, Scott Gustafson, Noah Atanda, and Levi Pillar.
Brown travels to Yale on Saturday at 4 p.m. with a chance to clinch a spot in the Ivy League tournament.
