We PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Back at home for the first time since Jan. 14, the Brown women's hockey team fell 3-1 Friday night against No. 9 Clarkson at Meehan Auditorium.
Senior Madie Stockfish scored her second goal in as many games for the Bears (6-15-1, 4-11-0 ECAC) and third of the season. Junior Anne Cherkowski netted two goals for the Golden Knights (21-6-2, 10-4-1 ECAC).
"I thought we played a really solid game from top to bottom," said Head Coach Melanie Ruzzi. "I know the score shows we lost the game but we showed some growth tonight. I thought Kaley Doyle and our short bench played well. We had a number of players missing and the team rallied and played to our identity of grit. We have a big game tomorrow night."
Less than three minutes into the game, junior Sonja Bjornson took control of the puck and sent a pass ahead to classmate Lily Lacey, who's breakaway shot was saved, but Stockfish was there for the goal on the rebound. It was the fourth assist of the year for Bjornson and the first-career point for Lacey.
Clarkson made it a 1-1 game with 12:53 left in the first on a power-play goal. The goal came from Cherkowski with an assist from senior Stephanie Markowski. The score would stand until the end of the period.
Cherkowski did again just over a minute into the second from senior Gabrielle David and freshman Sena Catterall. Clarkson struck again with 4:49 remaining in the second when Markowski set up senior Brooke McQuiggie for a centering pass to sophomore Jenna Goodwin to make it 3-1.
Brown had a few opportunities to score in the third. Junior Kaley Doyle finished with 40 saves in goal.
Brown wraps up its home ECAC weekend on Saturday against St. Lawrence at Meehan Auditorium at 3 p.m.
