PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A pair of goals in the second half propelled Brown men's soccer to a 2-1 comeback victory over Siena Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears improved to 4-2-0 on the year, including a 3-0-0 mark at home, while the Saints fell to 4-3-1.
Jamin Gogo Peters scored his team-leading third goal of the season to tie the game before Jakary Lawal connected on the game-winner.
"We're very proud of the boys for their effort tonight," assistant coach Andy Parker said. "A lot of credit goes to Siena; they're a very good team, a very difficult team to play against. I thought our guys, especially in the second half, did a very good job of executing a lot of the things we talked about this week.
"Our first half performance was decent, we were just missing that one percent extra. A lot of credit to our guys in the second half. A great finish from Jamin, and Zak Lawal, big credit goes to him for coming off the bench, making an impact, scoring off the set piece with the delivery from Kyle."
Siena got on the board first in the 15th minute when a Saint was able to control a low cross from the right side and tap it home. The first half would end with Siena holding the 1-0 lead, while shots were tied at six apiece.
The Bears came out with a renewed energy in the second half, peppering the Saints' goal with 11 shots throughout the frame.
Gogo Peters tied the game for the Bears in the 72nd minute. Charlie Adams' shot was blocked by a defender and ricocheted straight out to Gogo Peters. The freshman took one touch to settle the ball and a second to drive it into the back of the net from outside the 18-yard box.
Following multiple close calls, Brown finally found the go-ahead goal off the foot of Lawal in the 83rd minute. Kyle Gee lined up for a free kick from about 30 yards out. He sent a line drive into the box that Lawal was the first to and flicked into the goal.
The Bears defense stood strong for the final seven minutes to earn the victory.
Henrik Weiper made four saves in goal for the Bears.
On the night, Brown outshot Siena 17-11 and earned six corners to the Saints' four.
"It's never easy to come back and win a game," Parker said. "So a very good moment for our team. We can still learn a lot from this game and we look forward to getting into Ivy League play next weekend."
The Bears now turn their attention to Ivy League play as they will open conference action on the road next Saturday, Oct. 1 against Columbia at 7 p.m.
