Field Hockey Falls to Yale in Overtime to Open Ivy Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lexi Pellegrino found the back of the net for the fifth straight game and added an assist, but the Yale Bulldogs (5-2, 1-0 Ivy League) came from behind to take a 3-2 overtime win over the Brown Bears (5-2, 0-1 Ivy League) in the conference opener Friday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.
Both teams now stand at 5-2 in the 2022 season with Yale holding the 1-0 conference record.
The Bears took the early lead with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter as Pellegrino finished a feed from Emma Rothkopf off a penalty corner.
The Bulldogs found the equalizer with 4:57 remaining in the second quarter, also off a penalty corner. Théodora Dillman beat Brown goalkeeper Jodie Brine (3 saves) with an assist from Maddy Wong.
After a scoreless third quarter, Brown took a 2-1 lead with 13:14 remaining in the fourth as Lucy Adams deflected Pellegrino's shot past Yale goalkeeper Luanna Summer (4 saves).
Ellie Barlow brought the score back to even at 2-2 with 1:56 remaining in regulation. Barlow triggered Yale's penalty corner and slid to the far post and finished a feed from Alissa Wong.
Yale was awarded a penalty corner less than 30 seconds into overtime and Dillman scored her second of the game to give the Bulldogs the win.

- In addition to a five-game goal streak, Pellegrino now has points in all seven career games. The Westwood, Massachusetts native leads the Bears in goals (6), points (14), and shots on goal (14).
- Brown finished the game with a 15-7 edge in shots but shots on goal were even at 6-6.
- The Bears also finished with the edge in penalty corners, 6-4.
