OPENING KICKOFF
-Â Brown football will kick off its 136th season this Saturday afternoon at home against the Bryant Bulldogs.
-Â It will mark the fifth time since 2015 that Brown will open the season against Bryant.
-Â Brown leads the overall series 4-2, dating back to 2013. Both teams are 1-1 playing in Providence.
-Â The Bulldogs have hung tough against two difficult opponents to start the season, falling on the road at FBS opponent FIU, 37-36 in overtime after leading most of the game, and dropping a 35-21 decision at home against No. 22 URI last weekend.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Brown will roll with four captains in 2022 - all seniors - running back Allen Smith, offensive lineman Lucas Ferraro, linebacker Junior Gafa and defensive tackle Brooks Jones. This marks the second straight year Smith will serve as a captain.
PUTTING UP POINTS
Brown and Bryant have combined for 65 points in each of their last two meetings, the highest point total in series history.
WHO'S UNDER CENTER?
Brown will enter the season opener without having named a starting quarterback. Junior Jake Willcox and senior Aidan Gilman are the two frontrunners for the job. Willcox has one career pass attempt, which he completed for an 11-yard touchdown to Hayes Sutton on the final offensive play in last year's season finale against Dartmouth. Gilman has yet to appear in a game in his Brown career.
WIDE RECEIVER U.
-Â Brown's most experienced position is wide receiver, where the Bears return 14 of their 18 players who caught at least one pass last season. This is a stark contrast to the 2021 squad that had one player on its roster with a touchdown catch in the 2019 season.
-Â Brown averaged 311.9 yards through the air last season, the most in the Ivy League and eighth-most in FCS.
-Â Wes Rockett (8), Hayes Sutton (7) and Graham Walker (6) swept the top three spots in the Ivy for TD receptions.
The Bulldogs (0-2) have hung tough against two difficult opponents to start the season, falling on the road at FBS opponent Florida International, 37-36 in overtime after leading most of the game, and dropping a 35-21 decision at home against No. 22 URI last weekend.
ABOUT BRYANT
-Â Sophomore quarterback Zevi Eckhaus has completed 40 of his 59 passes through the first two games for 514 yards and four touchdowns. He was named the Big South Player of the Week for his performance at FIU, where he went 18-for-22 for 243 yards.
-Â Much of Bryant's damage on offense has come through the air, where they have thrown for 620 yards, while rushing for 114 yards through two games.
-Â Five different receivers have caught touchdown passes in the first two games, with senior Jalen Powell leading the way with eight receptions.
