PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team fell to No. 12 Princeton 18-6 Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears dropped to 2-2 in Ivy League play as the Tigers improved to 2-0.
Claire Jeschke scored twice for the Bears to lead the team, while Alaina Parisella, Emmie Lau, Sophia DeRosa, and Leah Caputo all contributed one apiece. Julia Ford and Mia Mascone picked up the Bears' lone assists on the afternoon.
A bright spot for the Bears was Emmie Lau on the draw control. She had eight on the day, tying her season-high. Erin Shafer also had five draws as the Bears as a team held the 15-11 advantage.
Five different Bears picked up two groundballs each, and four players caused a turnover.
The Tigers opened the game on a 7-0 run that included limiting the Bears to just one shot during the first quarter. Brown got its footing on offense to start the second, as Lau and Jeschke scored back-to-back goals to cut the Tiger lead to 7-2. Princeton would stop the bleeding and converted three more times to end the second and go into the half up 10-2.
Jeschke opened the scoring in the third quarter for both teams and Caputo added a second to cut into Princeton's lead. But the Tigers responded with a 5-0 run to end the third and go into the fourth up 15-4.
In the fourth, the Bears again scored the first two, this time by Parisella and DeRosa. It was just a bit too late as the Tigers tallied three more to end the game.
Brown will continue Ivy League action next Saturday, April 16 when it travels to Penn for a 12 p.m. matchup.
