PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Emma Montgomery was named Crew of the Championship and head coach John Mollicone Coach of the Year, while four Brown sailors in total received All-Ivy recognition, as announced by the league office Thursday.
In addition to her Crew of the Championship nod, Montgomery was also named to the All-Ivy League First Team. Joining her on the First Team was Olivia Belda. Caroline Bayless and Madeleine McGrath were both named to the Second Team.
"I am really proud of Emma, Olivia, Maddy, and Caroline on being selected to the inaugural All-Ivy Women's Sailing Team," Mollicone said. "They all sailed at an extremely high level at the championship and throughout the 2021-2022 seasons and they are all terrific leaders and role models on our team. They are all a part of history being selected for this inaugural team and finishing 4th overall at the first ever College Sailing Women's Team Race National Championship and Ivy League Women's Championship."
In his 23rd season at the helm of the Bears, Mollicone earned the inaugural Ivy League Coach of the Year award.
Montgomery, Belda, Bayless, and McGrath all competed at the Women's Team Race National Championship last weekend where the Bears finished fourth out of 12 teams.
On the season, along with Mollicone, the four Bears helped guide the team to two event wins, seven second place finishes, and three third place finishes. In only two of 17 events did the Bears finish outside the top four.
